VM Inaccessible: has 1 differencing child hard disks. E_FAIL

I am having a problem with my VM. When start VirtualBox, I receive this error:

Reading through the topics, I saw that it was recommended to make a clone of the most recent vdis and try using that in a new vm. Quite honestly I am not sure how to determine what the latest state was that I should try and clone the disk from.

I tried this command but it keeps failing and fails on other ids as well. Anyone know why?

HEY!!! HEY!!!!!! What's all this talk about cloning and crud? I'm not sure what happened to yours that's different from mine, but all I did was create a new virtual machine, then point it at the existing xp.vdi file and "voi la", it started like nothing ever happened.

creating a new guest os and pointing it to the old .vdi worked for me as well..
