Logitech C600 Webcam: Win7 Host/Ubuntu 10.04 Guest

I can't get Ubuntu (10.04) to work properly with a Logitech C600 webcam. guvcview and cheese show images, but they flicker, jump, have random blocks replaced with random data, etc. In verbose mode there are a variety of error messages reported, such as:
libv4lconvert: warning more framesizes then I can handle!
Could not grab image (select timeout): Resource temporarily unavailable
This is using VirtualBox 3.2.8. I've tried some of the suggestions I found on google for dealing with the "more framesizes" problem, but they didn't work (i.e., same errors were reported).
The USB selector in VirtualBox (i.e., in the bottom of the window hosting Ubuntu) lists the webcam, but it shows it as an "unknown device". I've seen reports on the web that VirtualBox may still not be dealing with USB 2.0 webcams properly (something about isochronic transfers, if I remember correctly).
Is it possible to get this combination to work? If so, how?
Thanks in advance!
