How to get 5.1 sound working as Ubuntu 10.10 guest

Post by Flasharino »

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64 Workstation under Virtualbox v3.2.10 r64453 on my HTPC. I have a Radeon HD 4670 graphics card and 5.1 sounds works fine under the Host O/S which is Windows 7 x64. What I want to do not is get 5.1 sound working in the guest Ubuntu system. The sound is configured as 2 channel now. Can someone please help me to do this?

Thanks.

Not possible. Its nice to get 2 channel sound in the guest. But more is not supported with the emulated device.

Thanks for the response. Is this due to a limitation with Virtualbox or with Ubuntu? In other words is it possible to have 5.1 sound in a Virtualbox guest with any other O/S?

Modedit: Don't use colours that can be unreadable on certain themes of this forum. Just stick to the default.

This is a problem with the emulated hardware, not with the os.
