How do I increase windows size?

Hi, I'm a new Mac User and still on the learning curve so apologies if I seem dense! I am on a MacBookPro, operating system 10.6.4 and have installed Virtual Box as I have a Guest Reservation system that I have to run on Windows. My son has installed Virtual Box for me and Windows 98. I have managed to install my Guest Reservation system successfully. The only thing is the window is very small and I don't seem to be able to make it larger. I would like to be able to make it full screen. Can anyone help? Thanks :)

Modedit: DON'T SHOUT IN TITLES! Thank you.

Look into the Tutorial Sections, the are Howtos for this Topic. You have to install a VESA compatible VGA Driver like Scitech Display Doctor or bearwindows vbemp.

But always better is uing a supported guest os like windows xp.

Thanks Stefan but unfortunately that is over my head! I have however tried, but with no success. Everywhere that I have found for Scitech Display Doctor directs you to ftp://ftp.scitechsoft.com/sdd/sdd653.exe but the link is broken. I downloaded Bear Windows and wrote it to disk but don't really understand what I am doing...tried to launch all the files in Windows but with no success...really don't know what I'm doing! Thanks for trying to help me though. :)

Its better to use XP.

A supported OS with Guest Additions is a good solution in a VM.

Win98 is a bad Solution, believe me.

If you want to install the vbemp-driver:

Unzip the Universal driver in the guest. Choose device manager, vga, update driver. Then choose the universal driver.

Hi, I have a similar problem. Running VB on Mac OSX - latest version, with a Win 7 64 bit as guest. The selectable screen resolution is not matching the MacBook Pro screen resolution, so I did some digging. But the results so far are not very good. Infact by installing additional devices for the guest the resolution options downgraded to only 2!

I have looked for the universal drivers, but where can I find these? Or should I use other drivers to get the 1440 x 900 resolution I want.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

Make a new thread. This has nothing to do with Windows 98 as guest.

I realize that English is your second language, and that cultural differences might be a reason for a poor expression. But a little courtesy rather than a bark goes a long way.

The thread title is about increasing Window size for a Windows guest, if it is limited to only '98 then change the title.

I will start a new thread suggested.

@siebertm,
Section is MAC host and subject is how do I increase windows size. I see no problem with your question.
  • To get the resolution to work in the Windows guest you install the guest additions (in the guest)
If it still does not work then the guest additions are not installed or did not install properly and I suggest you try again.
Once the additions are installed you control the guest with the mouse click & drag or the host+f toggle to go in and out of full screen.
Check that the auto resize function is turned on by using the host+g toggle, or look in the machine tab at the top left of the windows.
Note: if you are not asked to accept some drivers when the guest additions are installing then the guest additions are not installing and you will need to open the file manager and manually start them from there.

Reinstalled the "Guest additions". Still the options were only two resolution settings bounding a sliding scale. Tried the [host]+F keys, and well did that change it! [host]+F to go back and voila the screen now auto adjust.

That was a quick solution: thanks Perry. [host]+F did wonders. :D

The host + F worked for me, but my Ubuntu window is still small. How do I make the Ubuntu window full screen as well as the virtual box full screen?

I am sure I need to install guest additions, but I upgraded to 10.4 and have no disk.

Everything I find on the web says click on devices to install guest additions, but there is no 'devices' in my ubuntu to click.

Any ideas out there?

click host+f again and take it out of full screen. Then at the top left there is the machine, devices, and help tabs.
This should help Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions + Xorg config
