Screen size

Hi, Well I finally got this working and am able to get Fedora 10 running. The screen size was small and only filling up about a third of my monitor,. Hitting home-f did not make it full screen in my monitor, it simply took out the icons so it would fill up that one third of my screen with whatever I was looking at. I went into the screen resolution in Fedora and changed it from 640 x 480 to 800 x 600 and it got smaller. When I went to change it back it is so small that I cant get to the apply button on the resolution screen. I've tried hitting tab and enter when I thought it would be on the apply button but that doesn't work. I have a Dell Inspiron with a 15" HD screen. The Linux desktop now only fills up one fourth of my screen right in the middle. Needless to say this is not usable. How do I fix this? I would like to get my desktop to fill up the entire screen if possible.

I sent you a link to the Guest Additions installations earlier.
This should help
Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions + Xorg config
So open a terminal and type su and press enter type in your password and press enter again.
You should now be at the # prompt on your Fedora guest.
Type yum install dkms and press enter
Then when that is finished type yum update and press enter.
When this is finished reboot the computer.
Then follow the guide I sent to install the files you need to install the guest additions.

Hi Perry,
I don't see a link to guest additions in the previous thread and will do all you suggest. After I re-booted the screen size went back to what it was before but it is still very small. Will the guest additions help me with that? And please re-send that link.

Just read the howto. There is no need to download the GA, they are shipped with VB. Follow the guide and all will be good.

I have done all the updates and additions you asked me to except for that final one you said was already installed. The only difference I see is that my mouse works better and I don't have to hit the home key when going out of the os. My Linux still does not fill up my screen. The virtualbox window with the links to Machine, Devices and help fills up my screen but the Linux only fills about a third of that screen. Is there any was to make that fill up more of the screen?

You have the mouse click and drag and the host + F to go in and out of full screen
Look at the Machine tab and make sure that guest display auto-resize has a check mark in it.

All the hos=f does is take our the background and allows me to pin the Machine,Devices,Help and close links to the bottom of a big black scree with the Linux taking up about one third of it in the middle. It does not re-size the Linux screen at all. Clicking and dragging does nothing wheather I am holding down the host+f keys or not. There is nothing in the machine tab that says guest display auto-resize. The adjust window size simply takes out the Virtual box window and puts the small Linux window to the left, The same as full size only to the left.

The option you're not seeing has the shortcut key Host+G. Press it once, then change the size of the Guest window. That should do it.

I appreciate your dedication to my problem but Host + G did not work. Either in the Host or guest window.

Hmm, can you attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log of the VM here? It would appear that the vboxvideo module isn't loaded by X. Also, do you have an xorg.conf in /etc/X11? If you do, post it's content (either attach or use code blocks).

Sure, how do I attach files to this or should I just copy and paste them here?

When you post look below the posting window on the left side. You will see and Upload attachment tab. Click it and you can browse to the location on your HD that has the file/s you want to attach.

I am sorry, I am a linux newbie. I believe I've copied the info to a file to send to you but your site won't allow it. How do I allow odt extensions? And I have no idea about what you mean by attach the code. I know this is not your job but if you could instruct me how to get what ypou need to you it would be greatly appreciated.

Copy and paste the contents if you can not figure out how to attach the file and I will fix it in code blocks later.
