Re: Screen size
I can see how to attach a file but I copy and saved it in the office program and when I try to attach it the reply program says "The extension odt is not allowed" I will paste it here but one of the files is very long. I hope this is what you need and thank you for the help.-------- Well I guess it was too long and I've had to delete it as this time the reply program says "Your message contains 65540 characters. The maximum number of allowed characters is 60000." As I said it is very long. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to change my permissions to allow .odt files? Or is there just a certian part of those files you need?

Re: Screen size
Well lets try a different approach shall we.
Start the Fedora guest and open a terminal
Type su and press <enter> type your password and press <enter>
Now type the following in the terminal and press enter. Let me know if any of these did not install for any reason.

Code: Select all
yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel- Now click on the devices tab at the top left of the guest window and click install guest additions. If it does not auto start the CD an open it use the places tab and open the CD to see the files that are on the CD.
- Look for the VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run or if this is a 64 bit VBoxLinuxAdditions-amd64.run
- Right click and drag the one that fits you install and drop it on the terminal window
- Click on the terminal window to get focus and hit the enter key. Watch for any error messages and report them to me. If you do not see an error then reboot the guest.

Re: Screen size
I can not copy and paste as the file is too big for this program that we are using to post. I have saved the file in every format it will allow me to save it in and each time I try to attach the file it says the extension is not allowed. I have tried .odt, .doc, .sxw and .rtf. Each time I try to post it it tells me that extension is not allowed.

Just try what I said above and let's see if you can get it to work.

Re: Screen size
Okay, first I put the above info in a terminal window and this is the response I got:
[root@localhost ~]# yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
Package binutils-2.18.50.0.9-8.fc10.i386 already installed and latest version
Package gcc-4.3.2-7.i386 already installed and latest version
Package 1:make-3.81-14.fc10.i386 already installed and latest version

Package kernel-devel-2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.i686 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
[root@localhost ~]#
Next I clicked on the Install Guest additions in the Devices category and it seemed to do nothing. There is a CD in places under CDD/DVD that says Virtualboxadditions_3.2.8_64453.
I cannot open the autorun on it. On the machine starter itself if I click on File then Virtual media manager in the CD/DVD tab there is a Virtualadditions.iso. I cant seem to do anything with it I did the drag and drop to the terminal window with the one I found in places and cot this:
oot@localhost ~]# '/media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.8_64453'
-bash: /media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.8_64453: is a directory
[root@localhost ~]# '/media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.8_64453'
-bash: /media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.8_64453: is a directory
[root@localhost ~]#
Hope this helps.

Re: Screen size
Now when I start the guest the green arrow in the machine turns sideways and says show. There is a little white box in the upper left corner that according to the taskbar is screen shot running. And it just stays there. I thank you very much for all the help you've given me but I think tomorrow I will simply remove everything and start over. If you don't think that is a good idea let me know for I won't be able to do it until tomorrow afternoon. Again, thank you.

Re: Screen size
I see that you are very new to Linux and haven't learned to use the command line basics yet. I suggest you get some experience with that and Linux in general before installing the Guest Additions. That will save us a lot of frustration due to your inexperience and it will get you something to work towards.
If you are still going to try to install the Guest Additions, then please try and follow my Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions + Xorg config. If there is a step that isn't clear or anything, please ask so I can improve it.

Re: Screen size
May I jump in in this thread? I have exactly the same problem with screen size. I think I you pointed on a correct diagnosis in my case: the vboxvideo module is not loaded. Below the result of "grep -i loading /var/log/Xorg.0.log" (my guest is Archlinux).
How do we make sure this module is loaded? Thanks, Daniel.
ps. my Xorg.conf is the one directly generated by the installation of the GAs, with no modifications.

Re: Screen size
If there are no modifications to the xorg.conf file after the GA got installed, please post the contents here. Use code blocks to keep the layout of the file. You actually shouldn't need an xorg.conf file if your Arch uses one of the later xorg versions (1.6 or above).
