RedHat 4 guest ide errors

Hello,

I am running VirtualBox 3.2.8 on a windowsXP laptop. I do have ubuntu desktop already installed as guest and working. However, when I attempt to install "RedHat 4" any rev, the boot process begins fine and once it reaches the disk detection phase it get following errors:

ide: failed opcode was: 0xef
hde:hde: irq timeout: status =0x50 {DriveReady SeekComplete}

.......
......
ide: failed opcode ws: unknown
ide2: reset: master:error (0x00?)

It eventually times out and the install process seems to continue. However, when it's time to access teh disk and write the data, it returns with the same errors.

I am hoping someone has seen this error and can assist with any information on how to resolve this.

Thanks!

You should select IDE for CD and for HD, not ATA....

Hi Folks,

I had a similar issue. Trying to install OEL 4.5 on Windows 7 but failed with the following error:

ide: failed opcode was: 0xef
hde:hde: irq timeout: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }

So the trick to successful install OEL 4.5 on Windows 7 was to include both the Host CD/DVD drive / .ISO images and Hard disks to be under the IDE controller.
By default Hard Disk for Guest will be created under SATA Controller. Just remove the SATA controller and add the Guest Hard Disk to IDE controller.
This would resolve the issue.

Happy Installation using Virtualbox..... 8)
