Direct 3D in Windows Guest

Post by hrishi »

Hi,

I have a problem with Direct 3D in virtualbox. I have a Windows XP Prof. SP3 guest running on a ubuntu host. I've installed guest additions on guest, and Windows runs on full screen. I have enabled Direct 3D on guest, but still games like Counter Strike and Quake 3 don't run on full screen even though Windows does. It runs only inside a small window, and the rest is black. Hence the mouse pointer becomes a huge problem, as it doesn't stay inside the game window. I've already tried setting the game resolution, but it's disabled in the game (Counter Strike). Any suggestions?

Thanks and Regards,

The problem is that you have the guest in full screen mode but the game has reduced the guest's resolution.

The only solution is to reduce the resolution of the host to match the resolution of the game.

Or somehow get the game to match the resolution of the Host. If neither is an option, then disable the seamless mouse to keep it inside the guest screen boundaries.

I was going on the fact that he said he tried that but it was disabled in the game.

I tried changing the resolution of the host, and the problem has not been solved! The game looks like it's running in full screen (Quake 3), but the mouse pointer is still a problem. When I push the pointer down, for a certain distance it's on the game, and then it goes out of the game, and the floating windows shows (which comes on bottom when I go in full screen mode) since the pointer hovered over it.

Also, I can't change the resolution of the game to match the host, since max resolution of game is 1024x768 and resolution of host is 1366x768.

What do I do?

Even if I remove the seamless mouse option, it somehow goes out of the game when I move the mouse pointer (floating bar props up since mouse pointer hovered over it)! Is this a bug in vbox?

It could be a bug in how the toolbar is handled. Disable it in the VM options > General > Advanced. Clear the box next to Mini Toolbar.
