I running Ubuntu 10.10 RC1 and I can't get guest tools to work with Ubuntu 10.10 RC1, I notice when I install the guest tools one line during the install is Warning unknown x windowds version will skip installing system windows x drivers...so that seems to make it so I cant get any higher resultion on the guest screen then of 800x600, any way to fix this or do I have to go back to ubunto 10.04

Known issue. You will be able to install GAs after the next maintenance release of VirtualBox.

Only in the fact that it is using a new version of x. (1.9) and is still not an official release yet. No one wants to dink with their code until they are sure nothing is going to change.

Look into Synaptics, there are prebuilt guest additions working with VBOX 3.2x.

But we don't recommend using those. There are test GA available, but it's best to just wait for a new VB release.

Why waiting? Ubuntu 10.10 is a test release else, so there is no reason not to use test GA.

For me they work as they should work.

cant find it, The only thing I see is vbox guest additions 3.2.8-1, I tried that but that didnt help the max res is still 800x600

Do you see any newly available options in the Machine menu? If not, then the GA don't work, the modules aren't build or you're missing something else. Anyway, you can find the test GA here:

The packages are

virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms
virtualbox-ose-guest-utils
virtualbox-ose-guest-x11

I dont use ose, but I tried it and it just installed ose vbox in ubuntu, but the link http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/7306 worked for me

I've tried GA from the link above and I got higher resolution, but no Special Effect available, also briged network is not working for me

I now have a larger screen but still undersized; about 1280x800 on 1920x1200 monitor. Other functions seem to work.
