Well isn't that odd. I can resize the window and the resolution changes with it. Currently running on my 1920 x 1080 TV in windowed mode with a resolution of 1808 x 936. Are you sure that you aren't looking at the Display/Resolution applet for resolution options?

Running Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit RC as guest on Mac 10.6.4 (64-bit) Host.
Never had small screen issues prior to 10.10 Alpha 3. Normally, once Guest editions were installed, screen size was completely variable to full desktop. Never had to set any preferences to do that. Now under System/Preferences/Monitors the max reads 1360x768 (16:9). Am I doing something wrong? :?:

Yes, you're doing something wrong. That's the problem. You assume that nothing changed since alpha 3 concerning software versions and whatnot. Well guess what, they updated Xorg to version 1.9 and the default Guest Additions are not compatible. You have to use the test ones I linked to before. You do need to install them from a TTY because of video corruption during installation, so you can't see if it's done and how to shut down, unless you can do it blindly.

Thanks Sasquatch,

No, I was aware the new version of Xorg that effected Guest Additions & an update was pending. My problem is my software knowledge is limited.

I installed VBox Guest Additions_3.2.9_66155 as I have other VBox Guest Additions, in the terminal. I did get distorted graphics as in an earlier post. After restarting the screen size did increase from 800x600 to 1360x768. So, maybe it is installed but the Xserver isn't configuring automatically (your tutorial explained that Fedora 12 once had issues - http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15679).

You said "You do need to install them from a TTY". Sorry, not sure how to do TTY. I did boot in recovery mode, then to Drop to root shell prompt. I could navigate to /media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.9_66155 but could not run sh ./VboxLinuxAdditions-amd64.run or any combo. This approach must be wrong. Sorry. I'm willing to do this but need to understand how.

Start Ubuntu then press (host+F1 or host+F2) login as sudo, install the guest additions, when complete just type reboot, hit enter, and hang on to you hat for the reboot. Log back in and see if the mouse drag or the host+F toggle gets you in and out of full screen.

Note 1 host = the right ctrl key unless you changed it
Note 2 host + F7 brings you back to the desktop.

Thanks Perryg.
I got it to install by logging in Recovery Mode, then selected Root. Typed startx & got root desktop, installed Guest Additions. Got the distorted graphics but typed reboot as you suggested & was able to get full screen this time. I had to do something like this before & remembered to use startx to get to root desktop. I don't know if you meant to install it this way but, hey, it worked!
