Unusual networking happenings

Post by Spinner912 »

I am running a Windows XP guest on a Ubuntu 10.04 host. Everything looks good, and I have good access to my Windows physical HDD through a .vmdk file.

I communicate regularly from the physical Windows system with a Philips Streamium wireless audio system which has a "centre", and two "slaves" located at other places in the building.

The audio units can communicate independently of the computer network.

But to manage content on the HDD on the audio "centre", I need to be able to run some Philips software on Windows. This then connects the audio system centre to the computer via the LAN.

When using Windows XP on the physical HDD, i.e. booting up Windows from that physical disk and not using a VM, I can connect with the three audio units first time every time. But here is the problem.

When running exactly the same software installed on the Windows guest VM, I can only connect with two of the stations, and the one I cannot connect with is the all important centre.

The centre is showing as being available to the network, (I can ping it), but the Philips software from the VM simply does not find it - apparently.

Any suggestion what might be going on?
