I would like to use the same virtual box instance in two different machines (in one or the other, not simultaneously in both). One at work and one at home. So the idea is that I will keep all of my work/settings in the VM which will be stored on a memory stick that I will carry around with me.
I know that it is possible to just copy the .vdi file and attach it via the virtual media manager. That is basically the equivalent of taking a physical hard disk out of one machine and sticking it into the other machine. However, I would like to be able to do this without rebooting the VM everytime. Ideally a complete instance of the VM will be stored on the memory together with the the saved state. Then the VM can be resumed from any machine that has got VB installed.
Anybody know if this is possible or how to do it?
Thnak you for your help,
Pavel

Re: Share VM instance across multiple machines
Transferring a suspended VM between hosts is not recommended IMHO. It can only work if the host CPUs are identical, and even then I wouldn't want to risk my data on it. To me it makes no sense to risk hours of work in order to shave a few seconds off a task that can be completed while I'm off getting coffee anyway. Invest that extra few seconds, and start and shut down properly. My two cents.
