Bridge Networking half working

Hello,
I need some help for this. I use W7 and installed 2003 in VB. I need to use bridge network (I suppose at least) in order to be able to connect VB from outside my network. I have a Belkin router used as DHCP server.
Host received address 192.168.2.6
VB client received address 192.168.2.5

I can ping Host (and the rest of the world) from VB client AND I do have internet access
I CANNOT ping client from host nor anywhere else.

Even if address was given by Belkin DHCP, Belkin configuration interface does not show it.

In VB Network configuration I set (I'm sorry, I have to translate from french, since interface is in French):
Bridged
Interface: Realtek... (wifi)
Advanced:
PCnetFast III ...
Mac address : 080027304400
Cable connected

In the Client, If I type IPCONFIG I get:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.5
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1

On the host, IPCONFIG gives:

Can someone explain me What I do wrong?

Thanks.

Check for firewall issues.
Also you would need to port forward the outside world (from the router) to be able to reach the private addresses in you local net.

Hi,

thank you for your answer, but could you please explain more?

I cannot ping the VB machine from the host where VB is installed (the host can ping all others adresses inside Or outside my network BUT VB) VB can ping any address in or outside my network.

THE ONLY thing that does not work is when I want to ping VB from anywhere.

So, if you can help, I'll appreciate (since VB seems to me far easier to use and deploy than vmware and al.).

Regards,

Christian

First you can not ping VB from anywhere at any time. It is a program that allows you to install other OSes.

Now the guest is what you are trying to ping from the host. If you select Bridged mode in the guest settings the guest will appear to be just another PC on your network.
So if the guest and the host are on the same network IP range you should be able to ping each other unless there is a firewall that is stopping it.

I suggest that you not worry about the rest of the places you are trying until you can get the host and guest to be able to ping each other. Until that happens the rest will not work either.

Ok, thank you.

So now, how Ddo I solve this problem? I can not ping my VB client from my host? What is the cause of this?

Regards,

Christian

Try turning off the firewalls on the guest and the host to see if it will work.
Then turn them back on one at a time to see which one is stopping the communication.

Hi,

you are an expert... I had no idea that the firewall on 2003 did this (and I already installed it... so I changed settings without even notice?). But you got the answer.

I have now to identify each exception I have to set in the firewall.

Thank you again, you saved me days of searching to the wrong place.
