Why won't VM stay defragged?

Post by mdurisseau »

Any ideas? The VM definitely works faster once it's defragged, but it has to be done, for me, about weekly. I'm on a Macbook with a WinXP guest, 2GB of RAM...

Defragmentation is a function of HDDs and the OS--a better OS will have better defragmentation capability. If you do not like it, I recommend you do not run that OS. Another options is to not store your VBox images on a HDD by using something that is not susceptible to fragmentation delays like an SSD, etc. (as a cheap choice you could even go with an SD[HC/XC] card or a USB flash drive).
