Re: network problem
No, it is not. Two machines cannot use the same IP address if they are on the same network.
If you want the guest to share the host's Internet connection, the NAT setting should work.

Re: network problem
Yes. I tried NAT before but it doesn't work. Below is my configuration.
guest (NAT):
fedora, dhcp
IP: 10.0.2.15
host:
Windows XP
IP: 192.168.1.100
But guest can't access internet. BTW, can I let host to access guest using his IP? Any advise? Thanks ango

Re: network problem
The guest will not see unsolicited messages sent to it if the guest is using NAT. That's one reason why people use NAT. You can set up a second NIC using a host only connection if all you want is for the host to be able to interrogate the guest.rilawich wrote:BTW, can I let host to access guest using his IP? Re: network problem
Now, I know the actual problem is. Actually, below is my requirement.
host: windows xp with proxy/authentication to internet
guest: fedora 13
limitation: NAT only as the guest can't use bridge to get an IP from the host network to fulfill the policy.
After installation, guest can't go to internet. Does anyone know how can I let guest to the internet in my limitation environment?
thanks, ango

Re: network problem
I think that you have come up with a problem without a solution!
NAT and proxy are two different approaches which don't really work together.
With a proxy service, you really need to be in the same network as the proxy server (so it would work if you could use bridged mode). The client communicates directly with the proxy server using its IP address. It must be aware that it is a proxy client.
NAT uses a different approach. The client behaves as if it was connected to a public network. NAT does the necessary address translations so that the client appears to be connected to the Internet. NAT will work behind another NAT. You are trying to run NAT behind a proxy. I cannot see how it can work.
