VM running too fast, how do I slow it down?

Hey everyone,
After watching some instructional video's on the web, I managed to install DOS 7 and Windows 3.1 on a Virtual Machine. Now I installed some old skool Windows games, but they run waaaay too fast to be playable.
Is there a way to slow down the machine?
Thanks for any help,
Alex.
EDIT: I tried Google to find a solution, but all I found was people complaining about their VM being too slow...

they dont measure time, they are programmed for specific CPU clock
clock down the host to 4,77MHz

old Hardware that could do more like about 12-40MHz had a "turbo" switch for playing those games clocked down w/ "turbo" off

Thanks for the reply.
But, how do I "clock down" my VM?

no way with VBox, its not made for that. Maybe you could have luck with a terribly slow emulator like Bochs ...
better get some real hardware (max. i486 CPU) for that

Hmm... Too bad.
I fumbled around with Bochs for a few minutes, but it's not very user friendly...

I have no personal experience with it, but I keep hearing people recommend DOSBOX for playing old games. I believe its a full CPU simulator, so it should be suitably slow...

I know, it works well.
But, you can't install Windows 3.1 on it.
