Wacom tablet driver rejected?

I have no other clue how to put it.
I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet.
When I tried to use it on the Win 7, it kept telling me there was a problem with the driver, even when installed directly from the disc. Even without the drivers it should be able to function as a mouse and does not.
When used on the Win XP, it still says the same driver problem message BUT before the driver installed it worked fine and then. . . stopped working at all.

Does anyone know a VirtualBox setting or incompatibility that's interfering?


For clarity:

If the tablet is plugged in and VirtualBox is not running, it is automatically active on my host. The host has no problem with the driver or the tablet at all.

If I run VirtualBox and a guest, the tablet shows up in the USB menu as grayed out.
I have to unplug the tablet and restart VirtualBox and the guest and then plug the tablet in. The tablet becomes active in whatever guest is running and not active on the host until the guest is shut down.

The tablet requires a driver to work as a tablet; otherwise it automatically runs as a mouse.
However, the VirtualBox guests will run it as a mouse and be unresponsive.

When I try and install the driver to make it run as a tablet, the driver itself says there was an error, restart and, if that doesn't fix the problem, reinstall the software. I've done both multiple times but it doesn't seem to want to accept the driver and therefore the tablet will not work.

Is this by chance a USB device?

The actual tablet, yes.
But it shows up on the home screen and shows up as connected and running in both guests.

Loose the center commands it makes it harder to read.

USB devices are not able to be shared like this, unless it is you main mouse or keyboard.
Additional devices are a one-to-one. I believe you would need to release it from the host to be able to use it in the guest.

If on the guest, it's not active on the host and vice versa.

The main problem is coming from the fact it doesn't seem to be accepting the actual driver that runs it, either from the Wacom website or the disc that came in the box with it.

In that case it may be that it is just not going to work. Not all USB devices do. You can create a ticket here bugtracker suggesting an enhancement or explanation if you like. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
