How to use "USB Devices"?

Greetings,

Here is the situation..

Windows XP is up and running in VirtualBox on OSX.

I have a USB drive attached. I have created a filter for it. When I go to the VB Menu "Devices/USB Devices" I see my drive, in black, with a checkmark by it. So VB recognizes the drive.

How do I get XP to see the drive? Going to "Computer Management" confirms that XP does not see the drive.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I am still trying to figure out how "Devices" work in VB.

Ted

You need to release it from the MAC before it will be available to the guest.

"Released" is the verb I should have used. I tried to convey that idea with "When I go to the VB Menu "Devices/USB Devices" I see my drive, in black, with a checkmark by it. So VB recognizes the drive." But "released" is much clearer.

The drive is released from OSX; the problem is between VB and OSX.

More info: I have gotten the following error message from Windows:

USB Device Not Recognized

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has
malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

The problem is not with the drive; it works fine.

The challenge is in the interaction between XP and VB. I have not yet figured out how to get a USB device recognized by XP in VB.

Thanks

One other thing to check is your profile says OSE version of VirtualBox which does not have USB support. Where did you actually get VirtualBox and did you actually compile it yourself?
