hello all,
i am new to virtualbox. my professor wanted me to download virtual pc, but vpc is not offered for my macbook. so i heard about virtual box and downloaded it. i am using windows xp in virtual box. my professor has a .vmc file that he wanted us to use for virtual pc. Can you convert that .vmc file so that it can be used in virtual box? if so, how would that be done? thanks in advance.

The vmc file is the control file. There should be a VHD file?
If so and you know what the settings are supposed to be you should be able to actually mount the *.VHD file directly in VirtualBox.
Even if you don't know them you can tweak the settings to make it work.
You can even open the VMC file in a text editor and read the values that it sets.

perryg,
thanks for the response. I do see the .vhd file. Forgive me, but I don't understand when you say I can mount the .vhd file directly in virtual box.
Should I download the files in virtualbox using the Windows XP OS?
Thanks

Actually you would go through the install and when asked if you want to create a new HDD you would select to use an existing drive. Click the folder to the right (which opens the media manager) and add the VHD file there.

When you say go through the install, I have to delete virtual box and install it again and instead of creating a new HDD, i would select an existing drive?

No. Open the VirtualBox main program and click on NEW. Follow the bouncing ball and when asked if you want to setup a new HDD select use an existing HDD. Then do as I said above.
