Hi,
I am running Virtualbox on an XP box. I have a Windows 7 VM which installed fine with no trouble. I have now installed 2008 standard server, and the os does not detect the network adapter. It is Intel 82566dc. I downloaded driver for 2008 from intel, installed it and was met with an error saying there is no adapter present. I shut down 2008 VM and go to network details in settings, where it is detect and connected?
Any ideas?

Use the Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop adapter. Win2k8 has this adapter native.

Re: Network adaptor on 2008 server vm
thanks for your reply. I downloaded the intel PRO/1000 MT desktop driver, which had the same filename as my previous download (PROWin32) but to no avail. Same message as before. I then went to add new harware wizard, selected Intel from 'select adapter' window and could only see the following adapters:
Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network connection
Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2915aBG Network connection
Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 3945abG Network connection
Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 3945BG Network connection
So it doesn't appear to be a native adapter on my system.
Not sure how to proceed apart from installing another network adapter in my server, which I really don't want to do.
Any ideas?

Where did you get the Windows 2008 server install from? If it is an official Windows install CD it will have the driver I indicated above.

We have a campus agreement and get all MS software. It is volume licence. I also have other flavours like Enterprise, etc I might try one of them.

Re: Network adaptor on 2008 server vm
just had a thought, when I create new VM via wizard, there is no 2008 svr so I select 2003. I take it that does not matter?

Bravo!
Did not think to click on the 'Advance' option. Changed the type and all is good.
Thank you for your valued assistance!
