Can't start explorer, control panel etc.

Post by Maboz »

Im running Virtualbox 3.2.8 on OS X 10.6.4 and Windows 7 as guest OS. I have a big problem, i can't use explorer, control pane or anything. It just gives me an error message saying "Unable to access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access objects" (i used google translate so it might nog be the exact words as in an english version).

I have the guest addins installed and Internet Explorer works perfect, but I need to use explorer, set up some stuff in control panel etc. Can anyone help me?

Sounds like you got hit by a virus or something. If possible, install the Guest again from the beginning (just reuse the current VM, but start the OS installation again) and get protection software ASAP. We don't deal with virus or malware infections here.

Virus? You really think so? Who knows, but I doubt it... Im using a Macbook pro running snow leopard, installed Windows 7 with a retail disc, I wasnt even connected to internet during the installation. Cannot really understand how I would get a virus... Maybe something just when wrong during the installation? I'll try to reinstall everything and see what happens. thanks for your reply!

Ok, well, it might indeed be a faulty installation. But VB and the GA should in no way cause this behaviour.

I deleted everything and made a fresh install, now everything works perfectly. :D I guess there was something that went wrong during the first installation.
