Spider Solitaire in software rendering mode

Post by charlie98 »

I am using VB 3.2.8 with the appropriate GuestAdditions which have been installed in safe mode. Win 7 device manager shows the display adapter as VirtualBob Graphics Adapter and the driver is from Sun version 3.2.8.0. I have allocated 128 MB of video memory and 3D Acceleration and 2D Video Acceleration are both enabled.

When I run Spider I get the software rendering message. (It runs correctly out of the box using VMWare Fusion)

I have read enough threads on this subject to fill a lifetime but am I missing something?

Somehow, the default Windows games use some form of acceleration similar to Aero and that is not supported in VB at the moment. AFAIK, VMW Fusion supports Aero, so the games show up properly without any issue. You will get the same with Solitaire, Minesweeper and other games. I have either an error that the game doesn't respond any more, or I get a 'transparent' window that doesn't respond to anything.
