Hello guys,
I use Sun VB 3.1 on Ubu9.10 in my small business, so I paid to Sun 50$ per licence. Now VirtualBox has started to disturb me to upgrade 3.1 to 3.2 version. When I deciced to upgrade software, the conflict version error occured.
My question is: will my licences still be valid, if I upgrade soft from Sun VB to Oracle VB. The licence is granted by Sun not Oracle, for Software "Sun VirtualBox 3". Also, I cannot find VirtualBox at Oracle web store and I don know the price of business licence, in case of upgrade fee is required or I will need to buy more users.
Thanks
RAF

Re: Sun > Oracle - legal bussines licence
The below information is what we have been given. Although it appears that it is rather difficult to get Oracle to actually find and sell this (at least what others have said).
Commercial licenses are available from Oracle, although at the moment you have to purchase from Oracle sales or an Oracle partner.
The part number to order is: XVBII-LCO-9929 and is called a VirtualBox per User Perpetual License Entitlement. (Roughly $50 list and you can ask for Premier Support with that)
1-800-633-1058
As for the conflict you would need to un-install the previous version before installing the new version. Your virtual machines and setting should be retained, but I always tell everyone to backup first.

To be good understood, as I am not sure if this licence still be valid after upgrade from Sun VB 3.1 to Oracle VB 3.2?
THIS ENTITLEMENT AND THE ASSOCIATED INVOICE(S) EVIDENCE YOUR PURCHASE OF THE LICENSE RIGHTS FOR THE SUN
SOFTWARE INDICATED HEREIN UNDER THE TERMS OF THE SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT.
Effective Date: Invoice date plus 5 business days.
Licensee/Company: Per corresponding invoice(s).
Software: Sun VirtualBox 3.
Software Part Number(s): XVBII-LCO-9929.
License Term: Perpetual (subject to termination under the SLA).
Licensed Unit: Per User.
Licensed Unit Count: Per corresponding invoice(s).
Permitted Use: You may use the Software for Your own Commercial Use, Individual Use and Service Provider Use, subject to
and conditioned on your compliance with the Additional Terms listed below: ...
EDIT: OK , I assume that: Oracle is obliged to respect all Sun's commitments after takeover, so there was onle product name changed, as there is the same software part number. So my coclusion is that my licences bought from Sun are still valid.
I hope

Re: Sun > Oracle - legal bussines licence
I have been trying to find out since I posted the above, but so far I have not found anything that relates. Seems like it is more than a little difficult to get an answer to this simple question though. The best thing you can do is to call that number listed above and ask. I would certainly not upgrade until I found out, but that is just me.
