Hi community,
I have a MacBook Pro with VirtualBox 3.2.8 installed running a Windows XP SP3 guest. I created a dynamic disk with 10GB max size and everything worked fine so far.
Problem occurs now, using the WinXP some days, that the image is not growing. According to Windows the disk is at about 6GB and WinXP keeps telling me, there is no sufficient space left, when I try to install more software or copy something into the guest. I have no idea why this happen and why it happens now, after I could install a bunch of stuff.
Anyone an idea?
Thanks in advance,
Sascha

Re: Dynamic disk not growing...
You say it uses 6 GB, how did you check that? Did you select all files and folders on the hard drive and took properties from it? If so, then you're missing the hidden files and folders. You have to check the properties of the drive/partition instead. Checking the Host file system is also a good idea, modern file systems can handle big files, but if the VDI resides on a FAT32 disk (unlikely, since you state that it already is 6 GB or bigger), it can't grow any more.
Other than the above, it's also possible that the Host is out of disk space, in which the file can't grow and just tells the Guest the disk is full. But, VB should give a similar message and pause the VM.
