Datalogger not recognised at USB

Hello everyone,
My windows XP runs very well on my ubuntu 10.04 system.
I installed for a climate data logger, which only runs on windows systems.
A driver named "Silicon laboratories CP210 x USB to UART Bridge Driver" has to be installed in advance (on normal windows systems) in order to detect the connected data-logger at the USB port.
Well ... The program and the driver installed readily on the windows-guest, but in the Datalogger-program the data-logger does not connect (which is different on a standalone-windows system). There is also no hint for any connected hardware in the windows control panel. Hardware search: no results.
A right klick on the little USB-drive symbol in the lower window of the Virtualbox program opens a grey field "Silicon labs CP2120 USB to UART Bridge controller [0100]", and a yellow box gives 2 IDs and the message "not available".
Well ... Is there a solution? Hope someone can help me ...
Remark: Interestingly the USB - mouse is also "not(!) available" ... but works perfectly...
