USB problem on VB 3.0.8 on Ubuntu 10.4

My Toshiba laptop was running VB happily on Ubuntu 9.xx, but recently I upgraded to 10.4 and now VB sees no USBs. Clicking on 'USB Device Filters' brings a message:

'Could not access USB on the host system, because neither the USB file system (usbfs) nor the DBus and hal services are currently available. If you wish to use host USB devices inside guest systems, you must correct this and restart VirtualBox.
The USB Proxy Service could not be started, because neither the USB file system (usbfs) nor the hardware information service (hal) is available.'

Any ideas? (apart from revert to 9.xx)

This appears to happen on an upgrade and not a new install from 9.10 to 10.04. Try installing VirtualBox again or removing and installing again.

Oh, joy! Just what I was trying to avoid, because of the hassle of reinstalling the windows software as well...
But thanks anyway, Perry

You should not have to re-install the guests. They are not purged during the removal nor is the settings file unless you delete the .virtualbox folder.
But I always suggest backing up first.

Hi Perry,
That sounds much better. I'll give it a try, but tomorrow, I think!

Hi Perry,
You were quite right. Just done it - totally painless, not like previous experiences. Things have got better.
Thanks again
