IDE vs. SATA

IDE vs. SATA
according to the manual they recommend SATA, SAS, and SCSI over IDE. yet when creating a new machine/HD IDE is the default? What am I missing?

The default depends on the OS type you select. Older guests will not work properly with SATA. Relatively recent Linux distributions and Windows > Win XP (should work even with Windows XP but special guest drivers required) should work fine.
