Is it possible to use Autosize with RDP session to host?
Hello,
RDP allows to autosize guest on Windows boxes (resolution of RDP connection is not relevant to physical resolution of desktop). Is it possible to do the same with Virtual Box? Right now when I establish RDP session to VirtualBox desktop which is displayed is the same size and physical desktop resolution inside guest OS, I want it stretch to full screen in my RDP session.
Thanks,
G

Sure it can. The RDP client and version of Windows has control over that though. Nothing to do with VirtualBox really unless you are talking about VRDP and it is still doable if you configure the client properly.

I'm talking about RDP connection to host not to guest. VirtualBox allows to connect to console of the guest over RDP. I'm talking about that connection.

Makes no difference. What client are you using?
You say "VirtualBox allows to connect to console of the guest over RDP". Are you sure you are not talking about the VirtualBox VRDP? Connect to the host ip and the guest port number? Example (192.168.1.80:3389). Have you tried it and find that it is not working like you want?

I'm talking about host RDP, not guest RDP. The one which you specify in settings of virtual machine (port number etc).

Yes it works. Again I need to ask have you tried it and it is not working like you expected?
I do it all the time. You need to specify how depending on the (RDP) client you are using. There should be a setting in it to set it to the screen size you want.

This does not work for me. What setting I shall be specifying in client Window on a host? Auto-Size client?Perryg wrote:Yes it works. Again I need to ask have you tried it and it is not working like you expected?

Basically on a host client is set to 800x600. I"m connecting to VRDP on host and specify that I want 1024x768 and end result my RDP window opens with 1024x768 but with black borders around 800x600 client which I see inside it.

I don't see that problem. Have you installed the guest additions in the guest?
I just looked and have an XP client set to somewhere around 1024x768, and told the client that I wanted to see 1920x1200 (my monitor full screen resolution) and it works. You can not click drag the screen though and make it bigger if that is what you are talking about.

Yes VM additions are installed and autosizing works on a host itself. You are connecting to your guest OS via RDP and specify Full Screen in RDP settings and it's automatically scales to the whole screen?Perryg wrote:I don't see that problem. Have you installed the guest additions in the guest?

Re: Is it possible to use Autosize with RDP session to host?
Yes. Always has for me. I will see more tomorrow (late here) Post the client and version that you are using. Maybe you should actually try to connect direct to the guest instead of through the host. I have actually seen this cause your problem (reason why I asked so many times if it was RDP or VRDP). Set the guest to Bridged so it appears as another PC on the LAN and I bet it will work that way for you too.

To clarify things about terminology. Let's name all individual component.Perryg wrote:Yes. Always has for me. I will see more tomorrow (late here) Post the client and version that you are using. I have WORKSTATION1 with IP 10.0.0.1 where installed VirtualBox. After installation of Virtual Box on WORKSTATION1 I installed GUEST1 (Windows 7) in bridged mode with IP of 10.0.0.2. In settings I specified that RDP port for that GUEST will be 3388. I have another machine on network called WORKSTATION 3 with IP of 10.0.0.3.
I launch RDP client on WORKSATION3 and specify that I want to connect to WORKSTATION1:3388 and resolution shall be Full Screen. It connects and shows full screen but GUEST1 inside it still original 800x600 resolution.
This is NOT what you are seeing , right?
I just downloaded VirtualBox today so everything is latest across the board.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I am experiencing the exact same problem

Exact same problem? You mean that when you connect to the *host* from another PC using MS RDP you can not go full screen?NewOzzie wrote:Has anyone found a solution to this? I am experiencing the exact same problem
