In every application on a windows XP guest, where I try to scroll or select a group of rows in Excel larger than the screen size,it zips seemingly for ever until it runs out of steam. I haven't had this happen on a standalone Windows system, so I wondered if being a virtual machine might have caused/contributed to this frustrating effect.

Try with the absolute pointing device disabled in the guest settings (system - Motherboard)
