Hello there, I have this windows 2003 32bit guest operating system. I configure it under "bridge mode" in networking. I configured it in the same subnet as the host. Their gateway is the same, dns is the same. and for some apparent reason, I can't ping the gateway, I can't ping other pc. we are just in a workgroup environment.

Ping is not as effective as it used to be to test network connectivity because of the inclusion of firewall software in the OS, but you should be able to ping the gateway.

Can you ping the guest from a LAN machine? Have you checked that the subnet mask is correct?

Subnet mask are the same. I can't ping the guest from a LAN computer. I don't think it's the firewall built-in with the OS as I have them turned-off.

Then can you give us a schematic of the network, including IP addresses, subnet and gateway?

I'll get back to you guys. I'm found something regarding the security.

Its not the security. I trace the problem using WireShark and i think this has something to do with programming or something.


The set up is like this

My PC (Windows XP SP3): 192.168.42.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0.Gateway 192.168.42.1.DNS 192.168.42.3.
Guest PC (Windows 2003 Server 32bit): IP is 192.168.42.141 Subnet 255.255.255.0. Gateway of 192.168.42.1. DNS is 192.168.42.3.

The guest can ping the host and vice versa but other than that, I couldn't ping any LAN computer.

Thanks guys. It finally works. I got it in NAT settings.
