CDROM is not recognized by Windows 7. Disk goes in, but no recognition. Have to use terminal: "eject" to open drawer.
What am I missing to do?
Thanks much

Have you associated the host CD drive with the virtual CD drive in the VM?

IMHO, where possible you should use ISO images as virtual CDs - it removes host hardware issues from the equation. Freeware apps such as ImgBurn (though I'm not sure if this is available for Linux hosts) can be used to make ISO images from physical CDs.
