Hi,

I am using VirtualBox 3.2.8 on MacBook Pro(Snow Leopard), the guest OS is ubuntu 10.04.
Somehow the process of installing Apple Graphic package got interrupted, I rebooted my mac a few times and ran fsck,
when I start ubuntu 10.04 vm from VirtualBox, I always got
Could not open the medium
'/Users/../ubuntu1004.vdi'
VDI:invalid pre-header in
'/Users/../ubuntu1004.vdi'
(VERR_VD_VDI_INVALID_HEADER)

How do I solve the above problem ?

Thanks and regards.

Looks like the vdi file is corrupt.

Restore Backup.

Or try to bind the vdi file to another guest and copy files, if possible.

Or start the guest with a linux live cd and try copying.

Hi,

As I have a similar issue, I will keep it in this post. I'm using my virtual machine day-after-day normally, and I shutdwon it as it should be. This morning I tried to start my system (Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS) and it fails. The error is below:

Code: Select all

Could not open the medium
'/Users/.../HardDisks/Ubuntu.vdi'.

VDI: invalid pre-header in
'/Users/.../HardDisks/Ubuntu.vdi'.
(VERR_VD_VDI_INVALID_HEADER)

VD: error VERR_VD_VDI_INVALID_HEADER opening image file
'/Users/.../HardDisks/Ubuntu.vdi'.
(VERR_VD_VDI_INVALID_HEADER)

Detalhes:
Código do Resultado: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Componente: Medium
Interface: IMedium {1d578f43-5ef1-4415-b556-7592d3ccdc8f}
I tried to boot the virtual machine with a live cd to get my files but no success. As the harddisk is connected (no matter if as ide master/slave or sata), the virtualbox pops that error and won't start. Is there any other way to recover my files?

As my host os didn't crashed and my guest os also didn't crashed, neither they got shutdown by pulling the plug, won't it be "impossible" to corrupt the file?

Thanks for any help.

PS: Sorry if its hard to read, my english still basic.

Got the same issue last night when my host Windows 7 powered off before I shut down my guest Ubuntu 10. Really wish anyone could help us!
