Hi all,
I am using Vbox 3.2.8 on Mac OSX 10.6.4 host.
I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get a Linux guest OS working properly.
I first tried OpenSUSE 11.3 64bit, and am now trying Ubuntu 64bit 10.04 and 32bit 10.04. The guest OS just randomly crashes, and when I get back to VirtualBoxs main screen, it says Aborted under the guest OS name.
The crashes happen randomly. At boot up, while using the OS, even sometimes during the installation. It happens with or without the Guest Additions installed. I have tried disabling different hardware such as Sound, video acceleration, Network, USB, etc and it still crashes randomly. I checked the Vbox.log and there is no good information in there that I can tell.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Linux guests keep crashing
I'm having the same problem using a guest of openSuSE 32 bit that I've had running under virtual box since at least 3.0.
Though so far I have not had it crash during boot up, it crashes while trying to use the VM. I get the"spinning beachball of death" and then the VM crashes, and the VM entry in the VirtualBox control panel says "Aborted".
I started having these random crashes in 3.2.6, and it has been considerably worse in 3.2.8
I'm considering downgrading to 3.1.x

I'm having the same problems. It's getting to the point where I'm going to need an alternative if the behavior doesn't change.

JW, Did downgrading to 3.1.8 work?

Re: Linux guests keep crashing
I just read this post:
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=33197
And enabled the host I/O cache on the SATA controller in my VM settings. It booted the first time and remained stable. Hopefully that workaround fixes it.

Re: Linux guests keep crashing
Can confirm that it is now much more stable with "Use host I/O cache" checked in the VM properties for the disk controller.
Booted and rebooted Ubuntu 10.04.1 amd 64 a few times. Installed additions and OS updates and it is stable. It would not last longer than a few minutes before.

Re: Linux guests keep crashing
Well, while it is more stable overall, I just had the VM crash and say Aborted on the control panel. It's happened once so far.

Re: Linux guests keep crashing
vboxinSF,
I did downgrade VirtualBox to 3.1.8 and all the crashing has stopped - not a single crash since then (2 days now) I didn't even downgrade the guest additions/tools inside the guest, just the main VBox Mac Application.
I used the uninstaller from the 3.2.8 DMG to uninstall VBox, then ran the 3.1.8 installer.
