VBox Guest additions on Suse Enterprise Linux Server 11

I have an Apple iMac core 2 duo, running windows 7 32 bit. I installed virtualbox 3.2.8, and installed various virtual machines. One runs Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11. The GUI Gnome won't load normally, it says it is unable to start gnome when I type gnome into the terminal prompt. However, the GUI gnome automatically loads when I load failsafe mode. In failsafe mode, I tried to install VBox guest additions, so that it can install the graphics driver properly, which fixed my resolution and graphics settings on the virtual machines running winserver03 & 08. I am assuming that if I install guest additons on my SLES 11 virtual machine, it may help fix my problem with the GUI not loading in normal mode.

I tried to install guest additions, but I got an error "failed to build kernel module" during the install, leaving it incomplete. I am very new to Linux, and must learn it for my networking class, so it would be great if anyone could tell me how to install or build kernel modules in SLES 11, or how to get Vbox additions to work in SLES 11, in the context of this error (by which I mean there may be an alternative solution of which I am unaware). I have read guides that tell me how to do this for Ubunutu, but when I try the terminal commands in those guides, SLES 11 tells me that the command means nothing to it. I am guessing that every distro of Linux has its own pecularities and requirements for initiating commands.

Thanks in advance.

linux-sources (or kernel-source) and gcc packages are a must.
