I/O Apic change in Linux (Ubuntu) Guest

Post by Albeck »

Hi,

in VBox it is mentiont, that after installing a Windows guest, changing the I/O Apic does't have an effect.
So now i wonder, if that is a general rule, or can I install a Ubuntu guest with turned of I/O and after that turn it on so I can adress more cores to that guest?
Is Linux kind of felxible that way?

Linux is very flexible. It doesn't care much for hardware changes unlike Windows. E.g. you can install Linux on a hard drive on your computer, put it in an entirely different system and it will still boot happily. I/O APIC is only a problem for Windows when you disable it after it was enabled. Linux doesn't care either way.
