Bridged Networking - Mac OS X
Posted: 12. Aug 2010, 01:57
I am running OS X 10.5.8 (Host) with Windows XP SP3 (Guest) using VB 3.1.8.
I have covered this site and the Vbox manual looking for a detailed overview of how to setup a bridged network with OS X. (Yes I have read Chapter 6 numerous times and the various posts and links that can be searched.) I simply cannot get a bridge network setup so that I can FTP files without stalling or creeping along.....and would be appreciative of a detailed step by step perspective of how to do this.
Most important to this -
1. When adding an adapter which "Name" (en0 or en1) is best to select to associate with the Bridged Adapter?
2. Which Adapter Type is best to select?
3. Does a specific MAC Address need to selected? How is this best accomplished?
4. In the Preferences for VB found on the OS X operating system - in the Network tab do any IP settings need to be configured or setup to make the Bridge Network operate properly?
5. In the Guest Operating System (Windows XP SP3) do I need to setup a bridged connection in the Network Connections. What is the best way to do this and are there IP settings there that need to be set so that the network is established?
I have found bits and pieces of information but nothing that is concise and step by step. Based on the number of inquiries I have found this appears to be an issue with OS X users that might be helpful in addressing - might even make some sense to place this in the "How to" section of this forum.
Thanks in advance for any explanation that can be provided. Regards.
