I am running OS X 10.5.8 (Host) with Windows XP SP3 (Guest) using VB 3.1.8.
I have covered this site and the Vbox manual looking for a detailed overview of how to setup a bridged network with OS X. (Yes I have read Chapter 6 numerous times and the various posts and links that can be searched.) I simply cannot get a bridge network setup so that I can FTP files without stalling or creeping along.....and would be appreciative of a detailed step by step perspective of how to do this.
Most important to this -
1. When adding an adapter which "Name" (en0 or en1) is best to select to associate with the Bridged Adapter?
2. Which Adapter Type is best to select?
3. Does a specific MAC Address need to selected? How is this best accomplished?
4. In the Preferences for VB found on the OS X operating system - in the Network tab do any IP settings need to be configured or setup to make the Bridge Network operate properly?
5. In the Guest Operating System (Windows XP SP3) do I need to setup a bridged connection in the Network Connections. What is the best way to do this and are there IP settings there that need to be set so that the network is established?
I have found bits and pieces of information but nothing that is concise and step by step. Based on the number of inquiries I have found this appears to be an issue with OS X users that might be helpful in addressing - might even make some sense to place this in the "How to" section of this forum.
Thanks in advance for any explanation that can be provided. Regards.

Re: Bridged Networking - Mac OS X
The Bridged adapter is pretty much seamless these days. You should not need to do anything to get it to work. All that is required is a router in the network and you should be good to go.
When you say ftp files are you talking about the inside network or the outside network?

Re: Bridged Networking - Mac OS X
Thanks Perry.
1. Based on the number of inquiries I see about this (and based on my own personal experience) it seems like it is not all that seamless. Are there still OS X issues with bridged networking as noted in the VBox manual? As you may have noted I am not using the latest version of VBox. I wasn't sure if upgrading would help with this issue based on update notes ..... and 3.1.8 works well in all other areas for my needs except with setting up a bridged network.
2. Uploading (via ftp) large files to a commercial server (outside my network) is problematic.
As I have tried numerous recommendations found on the site - I still cannot find the right combination to make this work.... at least on my Macbook Pro. Any additional thoughts or comments are much appreciated.

Re: Bridged Networking - Mac OS X
Actually no I don't, except that they have improved a lot of thing (in regards to MAC). Perhaps an upgrade will help/fix your problem. Other that that you should report this to bugtracker and see what the DEVs have to say. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.

Re: Bridged Networking - Mac OS X
Use Mac OS X 10.6 if you can. Bridged networking works with Windows XP SP3 (Guest) and Mac OS X 10.6 (Host).
