Zonealarm Freaks Out

Post by Ben2K »

I have VB 3.1.6 installed on Ubuntu 10.04, with XP SP3 installed as the client OS. I've been trying to get a firewall working on XP, and most won't install and/or run. Zonealarm installs and runs, but every time I do something on the network, a new "New Network Found" window pops up. They all show the same IP address, but they are endless. The only way I can stop them is to leave one open and not respond to it.

I've searched the web, but haven't found a solution. Is there a fix?

What do you want with random block messages?

Use the XP firewall, thats all you need.

ZoneAlarm sucks. It gives more problems than it protects you. If you want to use a third party firewall, try Comodo instead.

Tried Comodo. Wouldn't complete installing.

Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 is old and leaky (for sneaky malware already on your PC trying to connect OUT), but works well I find.

Google for kpf21-en-v1.pdf might find the user manual.

I don't insist on Zonealarm, but all the others I tried didn't install and/or run at all. I'm open to suggestions.

You must have messed up the VM installation pretty bad, because Comodo firewall runs just fine in my VMs. Probably some residue from ZA.

Not helpful. You are making crude assumptions, and offering no way to test or fix things.

As if "doesn't complete installing" is very helpful. If you could state when it fails, and which exact installer you're using, it might be more useful than just that statement.
