Ubuntu 10.04 and OpenGL: "sticky" windows

Post by MuLepton »

Hi!

I've got a small problem which has me kind of stumped since I couldn't seem to find any info about it neither on google nor here.
First, my system:

VB 3.2.6
Host: Windows 7 64 bit
Guest: Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit

Computer is a HP Elitebook 8440p with a nVidia NVS 3100M chipset

Now that that's out of the way, here's my problem:
When an OpenGL window is generated, the display area "sticks" to the desktop and obscures any window below it. This happens with windows produced by e.g. ROOT or Geant4 as well as by the gxdemo program. For illustrations, see the attached two screenshots - the first shows that the display area is detached from the viewer window (bottom right of the display area, movable), the second shows that the window stays even on top of Compiz' Expo window.

It's not a showstopping problem; in some cases, the display area snaps back to the viewer window if the window is updated (resized, for example). However, it's very annoying, so I'd be grateful for any help that anybody could provide :)

Thanks!

This is an overlay issue and is not caused by VirtualBox. You would get the same if you play a video on a native Linux system and have OpenGL set as output method. Any window you put on top of the video window will be behind the video itself. If you minimize the OpenGL video, only the window will go down, not the actual OpenGL part. It's not much we can do about.
