Guest cannot see host using host-only networking
Posted: 1. Aug 2010, 21:50
Hi,
I'm struggling setting up host-only networking between my host and guest. I've read the section in the manual about networking and host-only networking and as far as I can see, I've set up everything as it should be - but it doesn't work. To be honest, I'm unexperienced where it comes to networking, so I assume I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is.
I'm using VirtualBox 3.2.6 on a Windows XP SP3 home edition host, the guest OS is Windows XP SP3 professional.
To rule out a firewall blocking traffic, I've disabled the firewall on both the host and the guest OS. The host can then ping the guest at 192.168.56.101, but the guest can NOT ping the host at 192.168.56.1.
I really need this to work, since I'm using the guest as a development environment that needs access to servers running on the host (SQL Server, Apache, MySQL) but need the servers on the host AND the guest to be invisible from the outside world - host-only networking sounds perfect for just that.
ipconfig /all info of HOST (sorry, in Dutch):
Kind regards,
Matthijs
