Software firewall on host effect guest? (bridge network)

Post by Albeck »

Hi,

A point that is not really clear for me, so i have to ask.
I have a software firewall on my hostsystem running (norton internet security), my Guest systems are connected over a bridged network interface.
So i wonder if the geust will bypass the firewall or does the traffic of the guest will also be fillterd by the firewall?

Tanks for your opinions and information, Albeck

Firewall software on the host should not have any effect on the guest. The filter driver which separates host traffic from guest traffic operates at a very low level. Firewalls only operate at the protocol level. A firewall in the host OS should never see any traffic adressed to the guest.
