COM ports detection problem :(

Hello everybody
i am using the last version of Virtualbox under ubuntu lynx as host and windows xp as guest.

Normally under windows , i can connect my LG phone via usb cable and windows detect it in COMx port !
now i try to connect it under virtualbox , i tried to configure my com port ( as host device giving /dev/ttyACM0 as port path) but it didn't work :(

can anyone help plz :oops:

See Chapter 3.9. Serial ports in your VirtualBox users manual.
Setup for guest should be use host device port /dev/ttyS0 and then you will need to manually install the com port in Windows.

i did this , but i could not install com port in xp even with "add new hardware"

my phone uses usb port (/dev/ttyACM0) not /dev/ttyS0 !

Is your login in the vboxusers group?
From what you are saying then all you need to do is port the USB device to the guest as any other USB device and let the guest handle the port mapping.
The only problem I see is if you are really using the OSE version of VirtualBox it will not work. USB is not supported in the OSE version. You would need to remove the OSE version and install the PUEL version from here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

i resolved that prblem , it was a windows xp problem not virtualbox one :)
but i still have a problem with my phone , the driver is now installed but i can't start
"device cannot start (code 10)"
i don't know if virtualbox has a relation with this or it's just between my device and XP :(

i am using Kubuntu 10.4 as host and windows xp guest

i am trying to use my gps on serial port /dev/ttyS0, i can use the port on my Kubuntu fine
i have tried and tried to get it connected on my xp but still no luck

i have read the manual 3 times and have it setup as per instruction but as the last comment i do not see it in the xp hardware manager
i have tried to add new hardware in to xp but it does not pick it up

i have read and read lots of other sites and tried different things but always the same NO com1 in xp ?????????????????

please can anyone help
