Win Software requires CPU-ID -- how to proceed?

Post by Hellmuth »

I have been using VirtualBox on Snow Leopard without issues for over a year. Guest OS is Win XP sp3.

Recently I had to install a professional SW (Conworks) that runs only on Windows. The software protection mechanism looks for the CPU-ID to generate a message which can be used to register the software which will then be unlocked once the proper key is being received from the manufacturer.

This created a proble for me. The error message received reads

Error gathering CPU_ID :: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. :: CPUIDdll :: at Conworks.CPUID.GetCPUID()

I had to install the SW on an old windows computer where it works fine.

Any hint how to tweak the VirtualBox to satisfy this demand by the Conworks SW?
