Exporting and importing problems

I am dealing with some problems here trying to migrate some VM's

The original computer is a single Pentium III pc running debian 32 bit with a couple of virtual machines - the one that fails most is one that i use as VPN server
The destination machine is a brand new dell power edge 4 core running Ubuntu server 10.04 64 bit.

I export the virtual machine i am interested it from the original machine

I import it on the new one....

Astonishing: In the original one, the openvpn service starts properly and all works like it should.
When starting the same imported one in the new server, this service has trouble for autostarting, plus, now i lost totally the network connectivity... (even both machines hve the same ip, im sure i switched off one before switching on the other one, besides,... whatever i do, if i go back to the original one and start it, it works fine)

It's really weird, and after trying to fix it, and exporint/importing several times the same machine, and having the same problems, the one to blame is virtualbox

Could it be that the base hardware is too different?
Could it be the different virtualbox version? (Created in 32 bit host, imported in 64 bit one)?
Is there any faster way for copying directly vms between different computers in the same ntwork?

Before thinking about the choice of starting all over, i wish you could give me your oppinion, if you want any logs.........

Thanks!!

More than likely a Linux (feature) that when it sees a new MAC address it increases the NIC number to eth1 instead of the eth0 that it was using.
edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules or you can delete the rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot
