RedHat Linux Server does not boot

Post by thebatchman »

I have VB 3.2.6 r63112 installed on OSX 10.6.4. I am new to RedHat Linux at my university. I want to install RH so I can play/learn. Here they use a rhn server to host the install images and kickstart files. I can successfully build the RedHat Server (i386 AS 4 u8) and get all of the way to the final screen and reboot.

Once the VB splash screen is gone, all I am left with a black screen with a solid cursor in the upper left hand corner. Nothing else appeared or appears on the black screen before or after the solid cursor.

Help....

Thanks :(

So you even don't see the GRUB menu? Did you install the GRUB boot loader during the installation? This is the default. You can try to repeat the installation but this time attach the virtual hard disk to an IDE controller, not a SATA controller (which is the default for RedHat in VBox 3.2.6). Though it should work fine even with SATA.
