To minimize image size:
1. clean up your guest hard disk
2. defrag the guest hard drive, if it is FAT or NTFS
3. use CloneVDI tool (see top posts on 'VirtualBox on Windows hosts' forum)
To clean up guest HD:
- in Windows guests: delete files in %TEMP% folder, clear browsers cache, use tools like wuremove or xp_remove_hotfilx_backup (ask Mr Google) to remove backups of system files done by automatic updates, delete content of C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download, and so on. If you have a copy of installation files in C:\I386, you may remove the whole thing as well.
- in Linux guests: I have no idea where garbage is located, so I use BleachBit tool to clean up stuff.
Anyone has more ideas what to delete in guests to minimize their sizes?
