[SOLVED] trouble with virtualization on i7

I just bought an i7 Q720 laptop and both VirtualBox and Xen tell me that full virtualization is not supported! What am I missing here? Can anyone help?

EDIT: My bad! Virtualization was disabled in BIOS

EDIT2: Oops again - still a problem. I tried adding extra CPUs to both an XP and WIn 2003 virtual machines, and although VirtualBox does not now throw an error as it did before, the Win guests still only show one CPU. I have used virtualbox for a while and it has always changed the number of CPUs (adding or subtracting) upon settings changes - and this has showed up in the guest. I ran

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
but that didn't help. I also made sure IO APIC and PAE were checked. Is this a known problem? Will deleting and reinstalling VirtualBox help?
(OpenSuSE 11.3 x86_64, 8GB) BTW: These are virtual machines I moved from another computer.

you may need to exchange the HAL in the Windows guests, i dont know exactly how to do but HALu utility could help me ... do a search here for HALu.zip

otherwise post a VBox log as attachment

HAH!!! THANK YOU!!!! That worked like a charm - who would have thought to search for HALu.zip? Thank you very much for the link. Patty
