I have found a very good paper here:
http://blog.grokworx.com/2010/06/virtua ... visor.html

It compares features of VirtualBox, Microsoft Virtual Server. Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare Server and VMWare View/ESX.

Let's discuss !

I am using VirtualBox in my work at RIT. I have a co-worker using it on my recommendation. Right now I use it as a desktop product instead of VMware workstation. The reason is that VMware always lags behind with Linux support for Fedora (my desktop OS). As for servers, I do NOT want to run ESXi as I want to be able to do other things with the server besides host virtual machines. VMware Server is being discontinued and has major bugs for RHEL 5.4 and on. RHEL is supposed to be a supported host. I am rolling out a few servers this summer to host various projects, and I am find it tough to decide between KVM and VirtualBox. I think KVM will be the way to go in the future, but right now its a bit unpolished. With the new phpvirtualbox interface, I may actually use VB though. I am doing some testing this weekend regarding 32/64 bit host and guest support, and how much difference VT-x makes on the hosts. I will try to include VirtualBox in the tests and post the results here as well.

Well, after playing with kvm I have discovered that it no longer supports 32 bit hosts. At least not on the Fedora builds. I am a little disappointed, virtualization existed long before 64 bit or vt-x. Its not like I am expecting great performance, but using KVM means obsoleting a lot of working hardware or using two different hypervisors.
