Hi all.
Have you any information about subj?
My FreeBSD version is 8.1-release with amd64 kernel.
I know about unuseable usb in OSE version. But no port or package with PUEL version for FreeBSD is present. May be some way to activate usb in OSE version by hands exist, or etc? Have any body some experience in subj?
10x to all

Only thing can I think of, is to ask nicely VBox team to provide PUEL version for FreeBSD host.

If you only want to use USB mass storage devices, i think you should be able to mount them in the host and use them as raw host hard disks from the guest (see
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch09.html#rawdisk ), after declaring them as SCSI drives.
I've not tried this!
Best regards,
Hubert

Thank you. But I need to connect scaner to the guest system. Scaner is unsupported by FreeBSD.

Once again, this is something that i haven't tried but you could plug your scanner on the host and forward its USB port over TCP/IP.
For example, you might try USB/IP (open source for Unix,
with a Windows client) to do that:
http://usbip.sourceforge.net/

USB/IP hasn't been ported (yet) to FreeBSD, but there's a research paper claiming that it should be relatively easy:
http://www.usenix.org/event/usenix05/te ... ofuchi.pdf
On the other hand, i've seen that there's already support for USB over Ethernet in the kernel :
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?quer ... ormat=html
Code: Select all
# USB Ethernet, requires mii
device cdce # Generic USB over Ethernet
Perhaps it will work with your device.

Hubert
