Fullscreen within a Fullscreened Guest

Post by Sinnocent »

I seem to be having the problem of Team Fortress 2 "crashing" when trying to play it on my Windows XP guest. I run the guest in fullscreen mode and when I run the game, it attempts to run fullscreen but immediately minimizes/crashes back to the desktop and causes my steam client to resize itself. I can never get past the opening credits. Anyone else have this problem or know why/a solution? Thanks.

Check the event viewer. I think it crashes due to 3D. Are you sure you have 3D enabled and installed the Guest Additions in safe mode?

I have 3D enabled and have the guest additions installed (though I did not do them in safe mode, does that matter?). I checked the event viewer and there are no errors, the crash is more like it just disappears. No error messages, nothing. I've tried all the suggestions from other TF2 users and even they are not working. The game files are verified and defragged, all launch options have been tried with no solution.

It certainly matters, because Windows System file Protection restores the GA 3D files when you're not in safe mode, rendering the 3D to be either broken or just not working. If you also installed DirectX manually, it's a recipe for disaster.

What are my options? uninstall both and reinstall GA in safe mode? Anything else? I appreciate your help.

Try with GA in safe mode at least. Hopefully, that replaces the proper files and the already installed DX won't cause problems after that.
